EVs have fewer moving parts than petrol or diesel cars, but they’re not fit-and-forget. Here’s what still needs attention:
Regenerative braking means pads often last longer. Even so, brake discs and fluid need regular checks — light use can lead to corrosion.
With instant torque and extra weight, EVs can wear tyres faster. Check tread and pressures often, and be ready to replace them sooner.
The battery is the most expensive part of an EV. Many cars use liquid cooling that needs periodic servicing to avoid overheating or a drop in performance.
Many EVs use a heat pump for heating and cooling. Check refrigerant levels and service the system to keep it efficient.
EVs are generally heavier than conventional cars, so the suspension deserves regular attention. Inspect shock absorbers, springs, joints and bearings for wear or damage.
