Slovakia is easing into e‑mobility, keeping the rulebook refreshingly short for now. Even so, EV drivers get a few handy perks.

Special number plates for EVs

In Slovakia, electric vehicles get a green number plate, usually starting with "EL" or "EV"—handy for making their electric credentials obvious at a glance.

There’s no requirement for an emissions sticker, as there are currently no nationwide low‑emission zones.

Road signs

Dedicated road signs just for EVs are rare. At charging points you’ll usually see the familiar plug icon with an additional panel:

"Parkovanie len počas nabíjania" (Parking only while charging)

Which is a polite way of saying: only park there while you’re actually charging.

In some cities—especially Bratislava—EVs enjoy a few extra benefits:
